Warwick Winter Leaves
Warwick....or pronounced WAR- RIK... which i first thought was WAR-WIK...haha made me a shameful daft in front of my friends..hehe well sorry for not being british..hehe

Anyway, was at warwick with Diana and some of her friends. It was so COLD! Raining! Raining! and more Rain. Just plain wet. Haha but it was alright. A lil rain won't put us off. hahaha. We went around the castle halls and all. Learned lots about the history of Warwick and its developments till recent dates.

Hmm after the warwick trip, which apparently finished at around 5, we waited outside our halls for Addai to come and pick us up to Kak Liza's house. Abang Zul organized an open house for friends and family. :) was nice of him.

Had lots of food. BBQ chicken. Lamb and all. I helped marinating the meats. It was tiring people. Hahahhaa.

I HATE....

London Bridge - Cathedral - 2007

I hate the missiles flying around countries which are in desperate need of help. I hate the fact that missiles burn and destroy all in its path. I hate what the missiles leave behind. An incomplete family left after the whole destruction. The destruction it creates fumes the skies and the land. Water turns gray and kills the land’s plants. What’s left are ash and dust. What’s the fun in that? Blood. Gore. Suffering. Despair.

I hate the momentum which creates pain in a human’s heart. I hate it when it comes to killing and egoistic war. I hate war. I really do hate it. It might be too emotional but yes, I hate it. War creates problems which until today we haven’t been able to resolve. Yet again, people try to put smiles on their faces. As though nothing happened. Or do they? Well, it all depends on which staggers who’s heart. Does anyone really care what’s going on around them? Even if they do, are they doing anything?

A sad thing when it comes to facts and features of war. With new machinery and mechanics of demolition, things not changing. What are you shooting kids or? There’s more to it than that. Fight amongst yourselves if you must. Against someone your size. Someone your strength. Why can’t we just resolve things how we did before. Obviously it was a particular someone who wants the benefit all to himself. Or maybe her. Nobody wins. Nobody loses in the end. So why not just shut up and get ourselves cups of coffee and discuss it over. Rather than spending so much money on guns and bullets. Children don’t need those. They need books and education. They need tender loving care. They do not need bandages and such.

We are civilized and educated. Why can’t we just find a solution to which everyone will be happy with? I'm sure there is no solution to that. So someone has to give in. Right? Wrong? Maybe? Could be? Possibly. Well, why not try and see what the future has in store for us if we keep on fighting and shooting each other till either one gives up. What has history taught us we haven’t learned? What have we learned from evil ideologies such as Hitler. What have we learned from Napoleon’s great adventures. What have we learned really. But only tricks of the old to just cover up things of what wrong we’ve done.

No? We’re in the 21st century for Heaven’s sake. Let’s get together and understand each other. I’m sure it doesn’t take Einstein to learn how to respect each other right? Let’s just see what happens now. Isn’t it intriguing to know how we’ve lived all this while with hatred behind our backs and scarce egoism on our face? Let’s just face it. The world isn’t doing fine at all. We’ve got to do something before it’s too late.

above is an essay i wrote. Well not really an essay, 500 words of which will be turned into image+text double page spreads later. :)

As Weekend passes by...

Victoria Square - Birmingham City Centre- German Market 07

What do we always do during weekends people?

market?

mosque?

maybe..the bed?

hmm well it all derives from sleepiness and lame utter weakness. What are we but mere humans who just sleep and sleep and thus fall asleep in the abyss of dream and slumber.

Snow Falls

Hey! I haven't been updating this blog for awhile now. Been quite busy travelling. Haha. Anyway, breakdown of my results for term 1:

Intro to Graphic Design ------> 63%

Mark Making----------------> 60%

Did a presentation for THS too. It was.....well..JUST ok for me. Felt i could've done more. Anyways...

GUESS WHAT?!?!??! it snowed last night! Wooohooo! my very first encounter/experience with snow. Such a beauty i tell u. Photos!! :D

Just a few. Lazy to post more.. Hehe. it WASNT easy to take photos with the SLR in the cold i reckon. Cause, i was scared it might get the camera too wet. And disfunction. hmm but then again, partly weatherproof ;)

Hmm had nothing much to talk about these few days. Except the fact that im lazing my butt off. Argh! I so swear to work harder. hmm..

Have a surprise treat for everyone this coming christmas. Not telling anyone. :P

Was in london for three days two nights. Spent some time with friends and kak dd. Went around london, heavily and purely by foot and tube. Haha. Well, i kinda like the tube. Except when it's at peak hours. I could possibly get to Shadwell the next time alone i think. hehe. No promises!!

I'm actually munching on my fried pasta right now. Tastes good btw ;) Just woke up from despair of just an OK presentation. Haih............. Gotta get my kits on.

Met Kalpana in London too!! :D Was really good to have met her after awhile. :) Went around London Bridge and Oxford Circus. Got myself a scarf and a trench coat. ;)

Oh and also, am starting my new modules this week. Hope im gonna do great this time :)

hmm anyways, gonna stop here now. Might start editting some photos for facebook and such. And yes! I'm on facebook. For awhile now. Hehhee. Look up for HILMI RAMLAN.

aitte then cheers!

hilmi

Thursday 15 November 2007

Hey! Was from the MAC store in BullRing. Was looking at some of the Macbook's in store. Was amazed by it really.

I was once told by one or two lecturers and of other people, i should be using a MAC, cause im a designer!

They said that 2ghz of a mac, is double of a PC. ??? OMG.. i like! the speed. and the ram? 2gb. 4GB?!?..ehehe

but obviously, it's just my itchy hands, cause im still having my HP Pavillion dv1000 laptop with me. :) quite a beauty i might say too. But it's screwing up. Battery isn't running right. HAVE to be on wire 24/7. And besides, i need a lappie which i can run around with. Not something i cant! I already have my PC doing that for me.

Was thinking of asking papa what he thinks about getting one. But i think, it's much cheaper to get one in Malaysia. Was checking out the price. The BREAKDOWN? :

Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz ----------------> Pound 1359.00

OR

Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz ----------------> Pound 1104.00

Applecare(insurance and what not) 3 years -----> 60 quids.

Adobe Creative Suite CS3----------> 165 quids.

That might total up to around, 10,000 ringgit?? haih.. i'd prefer to get it from KL.. IF im even getting it. Like i said, itchy hands. :(

anyway, i heard it'd be cheaper in KL. According to someone who buys MAC alot. Haha.
Anyway, got my results today. Darn depressing. Haih........ i did somehow think it'd be of that mark.
60%
:(
bad eh?
above average though. 2.1 ?hmm nways, m REALLY not happy with myself. Hope tomorrow's Intro to Graphic Design would gimme a 1st class mark. :D insyaAllah.
Anyway, till then.

boredom is always related to me...

Hey people, it has been a whole of doing nothing today. Haha apparently its REVIEW week a.k.a results this thursday and friday for our two modules. InsyaAllah ill do fine. :)
Anyway, had been thinking lots of my family. They're coming here in december. Isn't that great? hehe. So yea, theyre coming and gonna spend the whole winter hols with them.
Apparently, next week, we're gonna start our new modules. Can't wait really. Few of my friends got to know their results last week. ARGH!.. Most of them scored a 69% which is quite a feat. Because, 70% is a 1st Class mark. 69% would mean a 2.1 mark. Haih. Not what I'M looking for really. So yes, please pray that i hit the mark. I hope i'll hit MORE! hehe. If I dont, then Allah must have other plans for me for i already poured my heart in the work. Whatever could've been done HAS been done. So yes, tawakal. :)
Was arguing about copyrights with keith. Haha a short yet splendid arguement!
Besides that, have been doing nothing except sleep and tidy up my room. Had the room checks today. The officer was happy. Har har. Got my parcel from Amazon.co.uk today. Ordered a very interesting book from them. DRAWING NOW : 8 Proportions. Amazing illustrations in it.
Anyway, apart from being so illusionised by the fact that the MAC operating system machines here are cheaper than KL, i have no other interesting things to share about today.
Honestly, it's been rather quiet yet solemn lately. Have been calling home quite frequent too. Maybe it's the 'missing family and friends' segment again.
Akma wasn't well today. Tried calling a few times, she didn't pick up. Oh well. :)
OH YES! I want to sell off a MAROON 5 ticket. It's up for 25 pounds. Anyone?
They are coming to Birmingham NEC to perform. So yes, grab it while you can!
So back to akma, she's planning on coming here next year. Not sure whether July or January. But yeah, InsyaAllah. :) She's thinking of furthering her Professionals in Accountancy here in Birmingham City University. Glad to hear so though.
Well, quite nothing else really. Till then! :D
hilmi
bored yet anxious...that sucks really... :O

Illegal gathering in Malaysia

DPM: Don't incite racial disharmony

By JANE RITIKOS

KUALA LUMPUR: Do not incite disunity or racial disharmony because once ignited, it will be difficult to douse, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said unity, mutual understanding and respect among the different races was achieved through the struggles of the country's forefathers and should be defended by all.

"It is easy to destroy what we have built, but to rebuild will be difficult. When something is destroyed, no one gains," he said at the national Deepavali celebration organised by the Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry at the KL Sentral carpark on Sunday.

He was referring to the
rally organised by a non-governmental organisation called Bersih which lead to the handing over of a memorandum to a palace official in Istana Negara on Saturday afternoon.

Najib said Barisan Nasional's way of reaching consensus through discussion had been the Government's recipe for success.

"The Prime Minister has said that as long as there is an understanding that all races have their sensitivities, there is no problem that cannot be resolved through discussions," he said.
Hence, Najib said Malaysians did not go to the streets to voice their dissent, as street demonstrations were not part of the Malaysian culture.

"If they (the Opposition during the Bersih rally on Saturday) can gather 10,000 people, the Government through Barisan Nasional can gather even more people.

"But what is the use if such demonstrations only lead to the possibility of ruining what we have built for the country?" he said.
You see? Why create problems when there are too many problems. We're a multicultural country. We HAVE survived for the past 50 years! Come on Malaysians! What are we doing? :( it's kinda sad really. Seeing all this blame game. But then again, humans as usual. Not wanting to admit defeat. But anywho, this wasn't pointed to any party/pihak. It is but of my own personal understanding. :)
I sure hope good things are to come to Malaysia. Daulat Tuanku Sultan Mizan

Asmaradana AIM 2005

Asmaradana dance and choreography. Beautifully executed. My my. Kudos to Datin Tiara!

Very well done. Mixed the kechak and asmaradana song. And also, i noticed more bharatanatyam dance moves. :) Shiva? haha anyway very nicely done. :D truly am impressed.

the uniformity..man...that's just beautiful!

ASMARADANA

What wonders could we possibly ask for, when everything is already given to us..

ASMARADANA

Love is something that is born from the soul.

Piercing the lonely doubtful heart.

The seasons change but identity and likeness doesn't.

I won't be artsy fartsy with words. Tonight is just simply tiring. Did my laundry, my assignment and such. Papa's in jakarta. Golfing with friends. Syakirah's done with her end of the year concert.

Wow! It's been two months?? Syeesh. That was FAST! Didn't even feel like it. To think i've went through loads these two months. It made me think, whether the three years im gonna be in birm is gonna feel much in heart and mind?

Anyway, am in love with the Asmaradana remix song. The dance and choreography theme is really just plain beautiful!

Hmm anyway, thursday and friday is coming up! Anxious and Nervous still.

Anywho, it's Ashlynn's birthday today. Happy birthday!

This artwork i've posted here is for my friday final presentation for Introduction to Graphic Design. I've been working on it for 3 weeks. The process of finding this simple yet effective(not sure yet!) took me that long. The length is not of importance to me. But the process of doing, understanding and of learning from it. If you're gonna spend three freaking years on a project. Get a great piece of work. BUT learned nothing from it, then why bother. ;)

copyright by Birmingham City University, Muhammad Hilmi Ramlan and of THESITE.ORG
Anyway the breakdown of the artwork would be;

i made the puppet to resemble..a puppet? US! which doesnt have any features. well not much anyways. cause i didnt want to be specific.

i made the strings look like it's hanging and some of them wildly about. And made it look like it's gonna cut loose. And i wrote certain inscriptions in the strings to give the audience a little info about what the poster and THESITE.ORG is about.

Oh by the way do visit www.thesite.org fabulous site. But the layout of the site? wooh. unbelievable. too colourful innit? hehe

The colour, well striking! Contrasting! Effective is the word that comes to mind. haha

SO yeah, do comment and critique. But PLEASE do wait till friday. hehe im kinda...well like i said.. Nervous. Haha

Yes yes. The winds of autumn are blowing around. Ahhh..Chill yes. BUT. Im falling sick as it is. Crapness. Anyway took some panadols and Cirrus's. Hope it helps. InsyaAllah.

Got to know Nenek in Jakarta isn't well. I've been praying for her best health. Hope Allah will dispose of her sins and lightens her burdens. :) People might not know this, nor even my family members, she's quite the closest person to me. When we meet, i won't want to be parted from her. She's an arrogant person i tell u. haha but yes. She's my nenek. Nenek gue!! ahhaha yes yes. Im also indonesian. woops! hahhaha

So yeah, hope all is alright. Anyway mark making and drawing strategies is on thursday. Have to pass up the RVJ and get my marks the week after. Im starting two new modules in two weeks. COMPOSITION AND BALANCE PRINCIPLES with Bal Nandra and IMAGE AS TEXT,TEXT AS IMAGE(typography and fonts) with David Osbaldestein. Omg.. I spelt his name right. i think? hehe

Anyway looking forward to those. Alright then. Gonna go to bed now!

Salam

Was on the way to Uni. And guess what?? the freakzilla WIND came about. And brought in the rain with him. Crashing a party eh?..not! i was wet like a kid in a pool. Pergh.. really annoying. Got on the 934A. And went straight to town. Decided on the bus not to go for David's class. Sudden call. My first time not attending a class. Besides, it was just tutorial today. But still, i made history. And a bad one indeed. Sorry bout that.

Anyway, will post more things tonight. :D gotta get my poster design working. till then

Well it's that time of the year again. No no it's not Xmas but yes it is autumn.

The leaves has given out their signs saying that they are here. Winter's next. Autumn itself now is 6 degrees on a normal day. I wonder what Winter holds. hmmm

Kak Emi, Diana, Yam, Atong, Maggie

Anywho, went to kak emi's place for a Hari Raya visit. :) talked abit and ate. After the whole thing, we went off.
On the way to the bus stop, we saw a place where our crazy minds would show. haha. As usual, i took out my camera and snapped the whole scene. This time, i wanted some of the photo's to have me in it too. Haha

Atong, Yam, Diana and Adai

Anyway , then we continued our way down. We then saw the most beautiful site, well for me at least, so far! Haha. It was like an autumn heaven. hehe. The trees glowing red, gold and yellow. Bright among the dead leaves of past.

So yea, more photos. Hahaha. Not gonna post all of em. Cause m kinda lazy right now. Apparently i have my RVJ to fill up. Hehe. Lots of piling work for now. InsyaAllah will be done soon! :D

Vintage

title of work: VINTAGE

Like the title suggests, i'm now crazy towards pop art. Something interesting which caught my eye was ANDY WARHOL'S work. WOOOHOO...MarilynMonroe and lots more.

Anyway, here's an artwork i tried doing pop art on. It's a photo of Caster actually. A close person of mine. :) It's also in my RVJ. The journal im supposed to pass up next week. Filling the journal up with work now. :)

Pop Art isn't about the face, details and technical sides. It's all about the colour renditions and such.

So yeah. do comment and critique. :)

Next week is assessment week! ARGH!!... hmm insyaAllah ill do alright. So far, im doing great thanks :)

Anyway. a HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PAPA!! He's turning ** this year..hahahahhaha..

AirBrush 101 with Kelvin Poulton

These are images i took...without them knowing...hehe.. would've spoilt the fun if they did now innit?...hahaha..

Airbrushing for me is a unique form of art. It can be called fine art. It can be called Print art or whatever art it is you want to call it! Be it classic or contemporary.

Anyway, I had some ideas in my head, after Kelvin telling me to be creative in whatever we do. I came up with the works below. The scanner was a problem just now. Not mine. BCU's library. Someone must've spilled something on it..syeesh.now it looks as though i stained my work. BAH!..anyways..comment!
u cant see the stain now..hehe..i tried to clean it off.. :)

A Walk...

Hey there,

had the greatest time of my life today. Hehe. Did things in the workshop with Kelvin (lecturer) and Shah.

Was texting Henny. OMG! U just gotta see her Deviant works. MAN!...get a grip..let go of that camera! hahaha.. she's done great job. U see, no matter what, photography is always a part of that someone no matter where or when he/she came from. :)

Oh yes, i took a photograph of the park i always pass through in Aston. A beauty i tell you. Neat.

So like i was saying, did some work. Worked with the airbrush. Wooohoo!. Kelvin is one of the lecturer's who gives us the courage and support to be creative in our endeavours. Bless him. He's gonna retire soon. And he's gonna travel around the world with his mrs. And, he rocks! :D

Anyway, came back home at around half past 6. Got myself cleaned and cooked up something for dinner. Just chicken and fries today. LAZY!!

Hehe i might just get something really crazy tomorrow. For all to see and for all to quiz yourselves. Hahha. ;)

Aitte then. Will post more about that tomorrow. Feeling tired now.

P.S: i might change numbers! Beware!! =S

iPod Nano

I've learned that, by leading the eye, we get to capture the attention of clients and people. By having direction, motion and movement in our artwork, we can achieve lots more.

Clive said " We visual communicators are paid for our creative thinking "

I hope so too. Haha.

These two designs were done an hour ago. It took me that long to figure out how the Golden Spiral works. haha. Anyway, what do u think? Comments and Critiques please.

Sorry i've lacked in blogging. Have been spending time on reading about designers and what not. Interesting really. Tomorrow's THS. With Dr.Jonathan Day and David Haden.

Salam!

Star Dust

Hey! Today was a busy day.

Woke up in the morning. Bathe and got ready for class. Left around 9.15. And caught the 997 premier.

Hmm reached BIAD in like..less than 10 mins. Haha. The traffic lights were going GREEN all the way.

Had Mark Making today. Showed Kelvin and Lois my works, and they were happy with it. And they want me to continue doing it and start adding anotations. Will do!

Hmm then was reminded of Azzan's birthday. Yes, today's Azzan's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY !

Went for lunch cum dinner at Nando's with them. Wooh. It sure was nice. Haha. Went for a movie after that. Just to celebrate his birthday =D

Watched Star Dust. Dang! It's a good movie alright. The actors played really well. Great Acting. Astounding action and much more. Especially Robert DeNiro. Hahahah! He was a joke. Gotta see to know though. Hehe. TIP! Pirate master+Paris Montmatre dancer. HAHAHA.....wicked innit?

Anyway, got back home and helped Prakash. He was sick. =S looked bad. But nways, gave him one of my medicine. Hope he'll be alright. Anywho, these few days, I have been quite close to the two lads. Quite grateful really. =) Ill not forget them even if years took me away. Didnt see Joyce and Ashlynn for quite some time though.

Yesterday went and washed my clothes. One of my HUGO BOSS shirt wasnt cleaned well. The person i could send to? DIANA. HAHAHA.. the master in cleaning. Well, not only cleaning. TomYam soup chef too! haha. Well, she helped out with the whole rendamkan baju thing. And was gonna pick it up later on.

So that's about it for today. Nothing that adventurous.

My spelling is getting horrible. Gotta start reading books now. Haha.

Ok then, im gonna go off to bed. Oh yeah by the way, tomorrow is the IDEA PRESENTATION to the lecturers. They WILL critic and comment on our works. Hope it's all fine tomorrow. Wish me luck!

The Initial Work made from paper cut outs and felt tip pen outline.

Here's another work i just completed. Nothing much but just paper cut outs and some photography and lighting. Well, my concept was to use the coloured papers and the think lines drawn behind the work, GLOW! so that it creates a sense of mood and sensation.

It was a hectic job by the way. Hehe. It's for my mark making class. Topic of the week: Paper Sculpture. Create a paper cut out and photograph it.

Photographed and scanned.

By having the colour representation i hoped to achieve the sense of balance in emotion. Did you get it?
Anywho, not much of photoshop work these days because of the module. Its only Intro to Graphics and Mark Making. Can't wait for Composition and Principles class. =D

As usual, do critique and comment! Thanks in advance!

Retro...Get it?

Here's a work i was working on..might work on it MORE..hehe

anyway, it was an acetate drawing i did in class.. a week ago..was it? cant remember..anyway, yeah. Lois, the lecturer, told me to enhance the work. ENERGISE!..hehe..so yeah..i gave it a bit of couture paris touch. =) abit of Dubonnet. Well, u could say. A bit of France. =)

Havent got any comments from anyone by the way , so feel free to!

It was not a pretty drawing. It was messed up. Shaking. Blurry. But i loved the effect the pen gave to the acetate. Well, loved the whole work actually. I wanted the work to be abit of life. Spun by a few events and treats. And voila.

Well, like i said. C & C!

salam

EDIT:

Now that uve seen the colour version.. THIS was the original drawing.. on acetate. scanned =)

see how terrible it is..hahahaha
